The session will combine a broader presentation of the destruction in the northern pacific and a short documentary focused on the continuing story of the Bikinian people, their displacement from their homeland, the long-lasting impacts of nuclear testing, and their ongoing struggle for dignity, recognition, justice, and remembrance. Real footage from this year's 80th anniversary event, past interviews of Bikini Atoll residents, archival material, and cinematic visuals of land, ocean, people, will be used to invoke the memory & re-live the present. The goal is to create a short but powerful impression that honors the people of Bikini and helps audiences understand that this is not only a historical issue, but a living human rights story which currently intersects with Migration management and the broader Peacebuilding spectrum.
